How to Find the Right Employees for Your Company

These chief executives’ strategies have been developed over time. They will help you hire more creative, effective team members by going beyond pre-screened references and scripted responses. You can also gain insight from the interviewer if you are on the other end of the job search.

These are the basic principles that will help you avoid common pitfalls during an interview.

A job interview is nothing more than a routine phone call with predictable choreography. A conference room meeting, a flawless resume, and the standard question: Where do we want to be in five years? What is your greatest failure? Which are your greatest strengths and which are your weaknesses?

You can also add some conversation—perhaps the candidate and interviewer share something in common, like an alma matter or a friend from a previous job—and that’s it.

There is a better way. These are the three principles that will help you find the right person to hire.

  1. Be creative. All candidates will be ready for the common interview questions. Discover new ways to understand the thinking process of a candidate.
  2. Be difficult. Place the candidate in situations that will make them more open to their true self.
  3. Let your employees help. Not only will you have to interact with this candidate. You likely have a trusted team of employees who will interact with the candidate every day. Your opinion is important.

Take them on a tour

Keep an eye out for these things:

  • Do they have questions about how everything works?
  • Are they curious?
  • Are they kind to everyone they meet and are they interested in what they do?

Employer of Record

An employer of record could be your best choice for reaching your global growth goals if speed and local expertise are important concerns.

An employer of record, also known as a global PEO allows you to hire and onboard South African workers quickly, often in less than two weeks, without having to incur the risk and cost of setting up a local entity.

South Africa: Hiring

South Africa has strict regulations regarding employment. It is important that you have a compliant employment practice. We can make sure that each worker’s contract meets all requirements as your South African employer of record. We can provide guidance on cultural norms and best practices for hiring and keep you informed about changes in employment regulations.

South Africa: Employment contracts

These are the most important regulations to follow when hiring employees in South Africa. Also, learn how an employer of record or PEO can support your HR needs.

Hours of Operation Although the work week can vary, it is allowed to be no more than 45 hours. Employees who work five days per week cannot exceed nine hours. Those who work more than five days per week cannot exceed eight. Even with overtime, the maximum workday hours cannot exceed 12. Employers may be able to set up collective agreements that allow them to average overtime and work hours over a period of as much as four months.

Although employers are not required by law to offer bonuses, a 13-month bonus is common around Christmas and at the end of the year.

Probationary Period Employers may require probationary periods. These usually last for three months but can be extended if they are not sure if the employee is the right fit for the job. The company must allow the employee to defend their performance in this instance.

Termination and severance Except in extreme cases of gross misconduct, employees have the right to advance written notice and/or payment on termination.

The length of the notice will depend on the tenure of an employee.

  • Minimum of one week notice for six months and less
  • Not more than six months, but no longer than one year. Two weeks notice
  • You can give notice for more than one year. Four weeks (though collective bargaining agreements might reduce this from four to two weeks).

The Best Ways to Find Employees for Your Business

1) Give your business an identity

It is not necessary to post a job or ask for help, but it is important that you establish your identity as a business in order to find employees. Your culture is your identity. Your identity is your message. Your identity is your message.

2) Search for “Great” rather than “Experienced”.

No matter what platform you use to hire employees, it is important that you look for people who are “great” and not just “experienced.” You may believe that experience is more important than anything else as a business owner.

3) Get the perfect job description

Although most of our tips will help you find resources outside your business, it is important to keep your focus on your business first.

4) How to Identify Potential

Without the ability to recognize potential, all the methods we have mentioned for finding employees are pointless.

Although it may take practice and not all applicants will be able to do it correctly, identifying potential in employees can help you hire the right people.

Tips for Hiring the Right Employee

1. Find someone who is committed to their career.

You want to hire someone who is committed to their career. It is not a good idea to hire someone who changes jobs or careers frequently to earn a better salary. Hiring someone who isn’t loyal to a company could be problematic for your business.

2. Get Excellent Analytical and Learning Skills

You should try different methods to evaluate the analytical and learning skills of your candidates. Although testing candidates can be difficult, don’t judge them solely on their resumes and their confidence. Resumes can be full of lies.

3. Verify Compatibility

You want an employee who will be a good fit for your company’s culture. You should check whether the candidate is able to communicate well with other people, including current employees and managers. To assess compatibility, ask the candidate how they manage current clients.

4. Continue to improve your hiring process

The hiring process is key to any business, no matter if you’re looking to hire employees for a large company or to find potential candidates for your startup. These steps will help you ensure that your hiring process goes smoothly.

  • Instead of asking irrelevant questions, focus on the abilities, knowledge, skills and attitude of the candidate.
  • Advertise job openings for your company by clearly stating the requirements, education, experience, and knowledge. This will assist you in evaluating applicants and attracting candidates that meet all your requirements.

5. Do not Forget to Hire Interns

Despite the fact that people may disagree with this, it is one of best ways to hire the right employees for your company. All of their strengths, weaknesses and knowledge are known. What other information do you need?

6. Get social with the candidates

Personal questions are not going to get you far. It can also be awkward for both of you. Instead, your human resources department should analyze the presence of candidates on social media. This strategy can be very useful, especially if your goal is to hire tech-related employees.

Why should you use an employer of record?

Employers of Record are able to assist in overcoming financial and regulatory hurdles in remote areas. Each country has its own requirements for employment, payroll and work permits. These rules can be a major obstacle to international business expansion.

Employer of Record: Benefits

An employer of record can offer many benefits to a company. EORs are often most advantageous when doing business overseas, because local employment can be expensive, complicated, and dangerous.

  • They will employ your employees in South Africa for your company.
  • They meet all statutory requirements for your account
  • The EOR can be registered as a South African business – there is no need to do this
  • They create employment contracts and manage an EOR payroll system.
  • Your local knowledge of labour laws will help you navigate the local HR environment
  • They can assist you with terminating your employment or refer to specialist labour law practitioners
  • They offer advice on retirement plans and medical schemes
