The employing entity is on the public record but not on Deel's own pages, and a 0.60% Deel fee sits inside the column labelled employer cost.

Who Deel suits
You already have your candidate. Deel works well here if published pricing and flexible terms matter more than a local contact: a $599 rate to budget against before a sales call, month-to-month billing, a self-service platform, and a South Africa page that says a hire could start in as little as two days. Budget for the deposit and ask for the entity in writing.
You need someone found. Look elsewhere, or pair Deel with a recruiter. Deel's talent product is a sourcing tool with a marketplace of third-party recruitment partners, at $14 per worker per month. Deel itself does not source, screen or place.
You already use an EOR in another country. This is where Deel is strongest: EOR in 150-plus countries, contractors, payroll, devices, visas and an HRIS on one contract with an open API. If your current provider covers South Africa through a partner, Deel's registered Johannesburg entity is a reason to consolidate.
Look elsewhere if South Africa is your only hiring market and $599 sits above what a local specialist would charge, you want documented CCMA representation, or you want a named local contact rather than a platform and a support queue.

What Deel costs
Published rates on the scale: $199, $299, $459, Deel $599, $699.
Published rates only. Several South African specialists publish nothing and quote after a call, and some charge a percentage of cost to company instead. The headline fee is rarely the whole cost.
Here is every cost line we could find for one Deel hire in South Africa. Where Deel publishes a figure it is shown; where it doesn't, the line says so. We do not add these up, because three of them depend on your salary and your quote.
| Monthly EOR fee | From $599 per employee | A starting figure. Volume pricing not published; third-party reviewers report roughly $400 to $500 on 20-plus annual contracts. Unverified |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative fee | 0.60% of salary | Listed as "employer liability" inside the 2.80% employer cost on the SA page |
| Deposit | 1-1.5 months of all monthly charges, refundable | Per hire, refunded after termination once invoices are settled. Two months if probation is removed, notice is extended or leave exceeds the minimum by more than eight days |
| Setup / onboarding fee | Not published | Pricing FAQ states no hidden costs; no setup fee is named either way |
| Offboarding / exit fee | Not published | Local labour law applies on exit, per the pricing FAQ |
| FX margin | Not published | Payments in 150-plus currencies. Reviewer-reported: around 0.5-1% |
| Benefits, devices, visas | Separate products, prices not published | Discovery Health and Allianz plans, Deel IT, Deel Mobility. Deel HR Core is published at $5 per employee |
| Minimum term / notice | Month-to-month, cancel at any time | Notice period not published. The PEO promotion to 31 December 2026 requires a two-year term, so check your order form |
THREE THINGS TO GET IN WRITING FROM DEEL
- Your deposit for this hire, and whether any of the two-month triggers apply to your contract
- Confirmation of the 0.60% administrative fee, what it covers, and your actual South Africa management fee
- That Deel South Africa (CIPC K2021543748) is your employing entity, and Deel's position on CCMA representation
How soon your person starts
IF YOU HAVE A CANDIDATE
As little as 2 days
Per Deel's South Africa page: "your next hire in South Africa could start in as little as 2 days". The global EOR page says as little as one day. Both are "as little as" claims, not commitments; independent reviewers in our evidence base put typical Deel onboarding at 2-5 business days. Candidate notice periods are usually the longer constraint.
IF YOU NEED SOMEONE FOUND
Not offered
Deel does not recruit, and publishes no time-to-hire. Add your own search time, or a recruiter's, before the days above. Providers that include recruitment publish 2-4 weeks brief-to-hire; you can compare them in the tool.

Working with Deel
WHO YOU DEAL WITH
In-house expert teams, stated as 2,000-plus local experts globally, with 24/7 in-app support and on-demand HR, legal and tax expertise. No named account manager is published at the base tier; independent reviews in our evidence base describe it as tier-gated. The "250-plus in-house experts" on the South Africa page is a page-template figure, not a South African headcount.
WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY
G2 4.8 out of 5 from 5,800-plus reviews and Trustpilot 4.5 out of 5 from 9,000-plus, as stated on Deel's homepage; the G2 page itself now shows over 6,000.
WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG
The pricing FAQ states that on cancellation local labour law applies and Deel can help with notice periods and severance; the country guide carries a termination tab. There is no published position on who represents you at the CCMA, who pays or who decides settlement. Get that in writing before you need it.
LEAVING
Month-to-month, cancellation at any time. The deposit is refunded after termination once invoices are settled. Offboarding fees and the notice period are not published, and the current PEO promotion carries a two-year term, so check that your order form matches the FAQ.
South African compliance
Deel's EOR page says it employs through wholly-owned entities in 130-plus countries, and Deel South Africa is on the CIPC register (K2021543748, Braamfontein), unnamed on Deel's South Africa page. That page is strongest on payroll: income tax bands from 18% to 45%, UIF at 1%, SDL at 1%, workers' compensation at 0.2%, overtime at 150% and Sundays at 200%, and the minimum wage updated to R30.23. EMP201, EMP501 and IRP5 are not named, no disciplinary code or IP wording is published, and the overtime threshold shown (R224,080) sits behind the current BCEA figure. The country guide has a termination tab but no position on CCMA representation.
How Deel scores on the ten needs
These are the same ten needs the comparison tool on this site asks you to choose from, and these are Deel's ticks in it. A tick means Deel met the published-evidence bar for that need; a dash means it didn't.
- Not met:Keeping costs down$599 is at the premium end, with a 0.60% administrative fee on top.
- Met:Onboarding within 48 hoursThe South Africa page states a hire could start in as little as 2 days; the global EOR page says as little as one day.
- Not met:Help finding candidatesDeel does not recruit. Its talent product is an ATS with a marketplace of third-party recruitment partners.

Compare providersOur overall impression
Where Deel stands out
On pricing disclosure it is open: rates for five products, then the South African employer cost itemised line by line with a public calculator. Month-to-month with no minimum and cancellation at any time is materially better than the twelve-month terms common elsewhere.
The breadth is real: employment, contractors, payroll, devices, visas, benefits and sourcing on one contract with an open API. The South Africa page names workers' compensation and Discovery Health.
Where you should probe
The 0.60% first, because it is a provider charge grouped with statutory contributions. The deposit second: 1 to 1.5 months of all charges per hire is real working capital at ten hires.
Then the country guide, which is marketing rather than reference: a templated sentence about Belize, an overtime threshold behind the current BCEA figure, country counts that differ between pages. None of that affects whether Deel can employ someone in Johannesburg; it means you should not budget from the page. And ask Deel to confirm in writing that Deel South Africa is the employing entity, since its own pages don't.
Deel FAQs
A management fee from $599 per employee per month plus an estimated employer cost of 2.80% of salary, of which 0.60% is a Deel administrative fee. Deel calls these estimates and advises a sales quote. Budget separately for a refundable deposit of 1 to 1.5 months of all monthly charges per hire.
UIF at 1.0%, SDL at 1.0%, workers' compensation at 0.2%, and a 0.60% administrative fee described as employer liability cost. The first three are statutory. The fourth is a Deel charge.
Deel's own pages claim wholly-owned entities globally but do not name the South African one. Deel South Africa is registered with CIPC (K2021543748, Johannesburg). Ask Deel to confirm in writing that this is the employing entity.
Its South Africa page states a hire could start in as little as two days; the global EOR page says as little as one day. Candidate notice periods are usually the longer constraint.
Its pricing FAQ states month-to-month pricing with no long-term commitment and cancellation at any time. Confirm this against your order form, since the PEO promotion to 31 December 2026 carries a two-year term.
Employer of Record SA is an independent comparison service. We are not an EOR and we employ nobody.
How we're funded. Some providers pay us a referral fee when you request a quote through this site. Fees never affect how a provider is assessed, where it appears, or whether it is listed at all. Read our full disclosure.
Everything above comes from Deel's own published material, plus the CIPC public record for the entity, checked on the date at the top of this page. Where we could not find something, we say so rather than guess. Full detail on our methodology page.
