Skuad EOR Review

A global platform now sold as Payoneer Workforce Management: 160-plus countries, a $199 global headline, and a South Africa page that lists $399 discounted to $249 on volume. Dedicated account managers are included. A confirmed South African entity, a local team and a position on the CCMA are not.

Who Skuad suits

You already have your candidate. Workable if South Africa is one of several markets for you: rand payroll with PAYE, UIF and SDL, COIDA registration, a dedicated account manager and a $0 onboarding fee. Before you sign, get the employing entity's name and whether you pay $399 or $249. Plan on one to two weeks.

You need someone found. A recruitment product is listed, but availability varies by location and role and no South African coverage, fee or time-to-hire is published. Confirm it directly, or pair Skuad with a recruiter.

You already use an EOR in another country. The strongest case: 160-plus countries on one contract, contractors covered by Agent of Record at $99 and a Contractor Management System at $19, and a listed parent. The honest question is whether Skuad's South African delivery is any stronger than your current provider's, and the published material will not answer it.

Look elsewhere if South Africa is your only market and you want documented local employment-law capability, CCMA representation is a requirement, or you need confirmed owned-entity employment rather than a network containing both models.

What Skuad costs

Published rates on the scale: $199, $299, Skuad SA $399 list, $459, $599, $699.

Published rates only. Skuad's South Africa page lists $399 struck through to $249 depending on hiring volume; the $199 headline is the global starting price, stated to vary by location, role and local requirements. Several South African specialists publish nothing and quote after a call.

Here is every cost line we could find for one Skuad hire in South Africa. Where a figure is published it is shown; where it isn't, the line says so. We do not add these up, because the fee itself turns on a volume threshold that is not published.

THREE THINGS TO GET IN WRITING FROM SKUAD

  • Whether you pay the $399 list price or the $249 rate, and the hiring volume at which the discount applies
  • The employing entity's registered name and number, and who files EMP201 and EMP501 and carries liability for a late filing
  • A statement on CCMA representation: who attends, who pays and who decides settlement

How soon your person starts

IF YOU HAVE A CANDIDATE

1-2 weeks

From Skuad's South Africa page, which says most EOR providers can onboard a South African citizen or permanent resident in one to two weeks and offers a first hire onboarded "in weeks". It is a generic expectation, not a Skuad-specific commitment; the homepage's "in minutes" describes the platform workflow. Plan on the South African figure.

IF YOU NEED SOMEONE FOUND

Working with Skuad

WHO YOU DEAL WITH

Dedicated account managers are an included feature of the EOR tier, with employer and employee success managers, 24×5 support on business days and a help centre. No phone or WhatsApp number is published, several G2 reviewers describe a ticket-first workflow, and no South African team is named. Ask where your account would be served from.

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY

G2 4.6 out of 5 from about 358 reviews. Reviewers cite responsive account managers, the mobile application and detailed payslips.

WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG

The South Africa page states that Shield assists with notice periods, severance and final pay against statutory requirements, and names the CCMA as the dispute body. Who represents the employer, who pays and who decides settlement are not published. Get that in writing before you need it.

LEAVING

Minimum term, notice period and offboarding charges are not published. Independent reviewers report six-to-twelve-month terms with one month's notice in some regions, so ask for the exit terms in writing. The product has been through a rebrand and a merger in under two years; ask what the account looks like after the Boundless integration.

South African compliance

Skuad's South Africa page says it acts as the legal employer and its Africa page claims owned legal entities in all 20 African markets it lists; Payoneer's own EOR page describes "local entities and trusted partners", and no entity name or registration number is published. The page states that salaries run in rand, PAYE follows SARS tax tables, and UIF (1% each side) and SDL (1% above R500,000 payroll) are handled for EMP201 deadlines, with COIDA registration covered. EMP501, IRP5 and the COIDA assessment are not addressed. On exit, Shield assists with notice periods, severance and final pay, and the CCMA is named with no position on representation.

How Skuad scores on the ten needs

These are the same ten needs the comparison tool on this site asks you to choose from, and these are Skuad's ticks in it. A tick means Skuad met the published-evidence bar for that need; a dash means it didn't.

Our overall impression

Where Skuad stands out

Entry pricing is published across three products, uncommon enough to be a genuine advantage when you need a budget figure before a sales call, even if the South African figure is $399 discounted to $249 rather than $199. Coverage is broad, with 160-plus countries on one contract and payroll in 70 currencies, and the platform is documented rather than asserted, with 70-plus integrations listed.

Payoneer ownership means a listed parent with published financials, a different risk profile from a privately funded platform of similar size. For a company hiring in South Africa alongside several other markets, that combination is coherent.

Where you should probe

Little in the published record is South Africa-specific beyond the South Africa page's price, statutory list and termination wording. No named team or office, a generic one-to-two-week onboarding expectation, no position on CCMA representation.

The entity question is unresolved in the provider's own material: the Africa page claims owned entities in all 20 African markets it lists, and Payoneer's EOR page says "local entities and trusted partners". That contradiction is why the tool does not credit compliance.

EMP501 and IRP5 are absent, COIDA appears only as a registration line, and the discount structure is referenced without thresholds.

Skuad FAQs

No. It was rebranded as Payoneer Workforce Management after the 2024 acquisition, and Boundless, an Ireland-based EOR bought in January 2026, has been folded into the same product. The skuad.io domain remains live with its own pricing and country pages.

The South Africa page publishes $399 per employee per month, struck through to $249, with the discount depending on hiring volume. The global starting price is $199, described as varying by location, role and local requirements. The homepage advertises a $0 onboarding fee. Request a written quote.

Claimed but not confirmed. The Africa page says Skuad operates owned legal entities across its African markets including South Africa; Payoneer's EOR page describes "local entities and trusted partners". Ask for the employing entity's name and registration number.

It states it runs rand payroll, applies PAYE using SARS tax tables, handles UIF and SDL for EMP201 deadlines and covers COIDA registration. The COIDA assessment, EMP501 and IRP5 are not addressed; ask about them specifically.

Neither is published. Independent reviewers report six-to-twelve-month terms and roughly one month's salary on deposit in some regions, so ask for the minimum term, notice period and any deposit in writing.

Employer of Record SA is an independent comparison service. We are not an EOR and we employ nobody.

How we're funded. Some providers pay us a referral fee when you request a quote through this site. Fees never affect how a provider is assessed, where it appears, or whether it is listed at all. Read our full disclosure.

Everything above comes from Skuad's own published material and Payoneer's investor releases, checked on the date at the top of this page. Where we could not find something, we say so rather than guess. Full detail on our methodology page.
