Who DNA EOR suits
You already have your candidate. A good fit if South Africa is your only hiring market and payroll depth matters more than a dashboard: a $199 fixed fee with a published ceiling, a local employer whose founders spent two decades in South African payroll software, payroll specialists to speak to, and benefits administered within the fee. Plan on the deposit, and on the slower of the two onboarding figures for your first hire.
You need someone found. DNA publishes recruitment (permanent, contract and executive search, with sourcing, screening and reference checks), and its BPO product hires call-centre teams at scale. Fees and time-to-hire are not published, so ask for both; the comparison tool does not credit recruitment for that reason.
You already use an EOR in another country. DNA cannot take the rest of your headcount: its homepage states EOR is provided in South Africa only, and the payroll-outsourcing arm is a different service. Use it for South Africa alongside your global provider, or not at all.
Look elsewhere if you want one contract and one platform across several countries, you need HRIS, ATS or accounting integrations, you require published contract terms before engaging, or CCMA representation is a firm requirement and you need it documented rather than implied.

What DNA EOR costs
Published rates on the scale: DNA EOR $199, $299, $459, $599, $699.
Published rates only. Several South African specialists publish nothing and quote after a call, and some charge a percentage of cost to company instead. The headline fee is rarely the whole cost.
Here is every cost line we could find for one DNA EOR hire in South Africa. Where DNA publishes a figure it is shown; where it doesn't, the line says so. We do not add these up, because the deposit and the add-ons are unpriced.
| Monthly EOR fee | $199 per employee, fixed | Pricing page shows $125-$275 across products; homepage says from $175. Fee reflects HR scope; sliding scale for growth. VAT-exempt where services qualify as exported |

THREE THINGS TO GET IN WRITING FROM DNA EOR
- Your fixed fee, the HR scope it assumes, and the VAT treatment for your arrangement
- The deposit amount and its return terms, plus any implementation fee and the notice period
- The registered entity name and number, and a position on CCMA representation
How soon your person starts
IF YOU HAVE A CANDIDATE
2 business days
Per DNA's FAQ: onboarding takes two business days after the client has signed the services agreement and paid the deposit. The EOR service page says most setups are running within five to ten business days, and the two are not reconciled. Plan on the longer figure for your first hire, and ask which applies.

Not published
DNA recruits for permanent, contract and executive roles, but publishes no time-to-hire and no fees. Ask for both before you brief a role. Providers that include recruitment publish 2-4 weeks brief-to-hire; you can compare them in the tool.

Working with DNA EOR
WHO YOU DEAL WITH
Payroll specialists rather than a ticket queue, from offices in Pretoria (Hazelwood) and Cape Town (Century City), with a South African phone number. The pricing material has described a dedicated HR Business Partner with monthly meetings. We couldn't find that wording on the current pricing page, so confirm it is still on offer, and who your named contact is.
WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY
51 reviews are referenced on the pricing page, and client and employee testimonials are published. We found no G2 or Capterra listing.
WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG
DNA's homepage names dispute resolution as an area where a local employer's familiarity matters. It stops short of stating who represents you at the CCMA, who pays and who decides settlement. Get that in writing before you need it.
LEAVING
Minimum term, notice period, offboarding fees and the deposit's return terms are not published. DNA Outsourcing's site says EOR contracts can be cancelled on short notice; ask what "short" means on your agreement.
South African compliance
DNA states it becomes the legal employer in South Africa, drafts contracts for South African law and is familiar with the country's labour legislation, worker protections and dispute resolution processes; the registered entity is not named. Payroll is its best-documented area: PAYE, UIF, SDL and payroll reporting managed in line with South African legislation by South African payroll specialists, with leave tracked on its online platform. COIDA, EMP501 and IRP5 are not addressed by name, no disciplinary code or IP wording is published, and there is no stated position on who represents the employer at the CCMA, which is why the comparison tool does not credit compliance.
How DNA EOR scores on the ten needs
These are the same ten needs the comparison tool on this site asks you to choose from, and these are DNA EOR's ticks in it. A tick means DNA met the published-evidence bar for that need; a dash means it didn't.
- Met:Keeping costs down$199 fixed fee, with the pricing page showing $125-$275 across products, and VAT-exempt where services qualify as exported.
- Met:Onboarding within 48 hoursFAQ: onboarding takes two business days after the signed agreement and deposit. The service page's 5-10 business days is the figure to plan on.
- Not met:Help finding candidatesRecruitment is a published service line, but no South African talent pool, time-to-hire or placement fees are published, so it missed the evidence bar.
- Met:HR support on the ground in SAOffices in Pretoria and Cape Town, a South African phone number and a dedicated HR support team.
- Not met:SA labour law and CCMA coverLegal employer with documented payroll compliance, but no CCMA representation, disciplinary process or entity registration number published.
- Met:A dedicated account managerA dedicated HR Business Partner with monthly meetings, described in the pricing material; "you speak to a human". Confirm it is still on offer.
- Met:Managing employee benefitsRetirement funds, medical aid, medical insurance, life and funeral cover via partnered providers, administered within the fee. No scheme named.
- Met:Providing office space and equipmentCo-working, private and dedicated offices, plus laptops, monitors and phones delivered to new hires, on the Our Services page.
- Not met:A self-service platform or appAn online leave platform and an employee self-service portal only; no client dashboard, integrations or API.
- Not met:Hiring in other countries tooEOR in South Africa only. Payroll outsourcing elsewhere is a separate service.

Compare providersOur overall impression
Where DNA EOR stands out
The entity question, the hardest thing to establish about most global platforms, is answered directly: DNA states it becomes the legal employer, and its history as a South African payroll business founded in 2018 by former VIP and Sage Payroll operators is consistent with that. Payroll and statutory administration is the best-documented part of the offer, which matters because that is where errors turn into SARS penalties.
A published ceiling as well as a floor, the VAT treatment explained, and desks, offices and equipment alongside employment make the positioning coherent for a South Africa-only buyer or a BPO firm building a call-centre team.
Where you should probe
The site carries three starting prices, and the fee moves with how much day-to-day HR you want DNA to run, so the published range is the start of a pricing conversation. Onboarding is published twice with figures that disagree.
Several things buyers rely on are absent: minimum term and notice, the deposit amount, named benefit schemes, COIDA, EMP501 and IRP5 handling, and a CCMA position despite the site raising dispute resolution as a reason to choose a local provider. The platform is an employee portal, not a client dashboard. That is a deliberate trade-off rather than an oversight. What would change our assessment is a written CCMA position and a verifiable registration number, both straightforward for a provider positioning on local depth.
DNA EOR FAQs
A fixed fee of $199 per employee per month; the pricing page displays a $125 to $275 range across products and the homepage says from $175. The fee depends on headcount, industry and how involved DNA is in day-to-day HR, so get your rate and its scope in writing.
It states that it becomes the legal employer so you do not need to open a South African company. The registered name and number are not published, so ask for both and check them at CIPC.
DNA states that EOR services often qualify as exported services and are therefore exempt from South Africa's 15% VAT. Whether that applies depends on your arrangement, so get written confirmation.
The FAQ says two business days after the services agreement is signed and the deposit paid. The EOR service page says most setups are running within five to ten business days. Plan on the longer figure for your first hire.
No. The homepage states EOR services are provided in South Africa only, for clients based elsewhere. Payroll outsourcing across 46 jurisdictions is a separate service; you will need another provider for EOR elsewhere.
Employer of Record SA is an independent comparison service. We are not an EOR and we employ nobody.
How we're funded. Some providers pay us a referral fee when you request a quote through this site. Fees never affect how a provider is assessed, where it appears, or whether it is listed at all. Read our full disclosure.
Everything above comes from DNA EOR's own published material, checked on the date at the top of this page. Where we could not find something, we say so rather than guess. Full detail on our methodology page.
